Civil War Commemorative Pen SKU: P510
Inspired by the era when correspondence was an art form and crafsmanship was honored with replicas of Civil War era bullets and musket, this pen is ready to help you create your own chapter of history. It's the perfect gift for the Civil War enthusiasts, gun aficionados, history buffs, and outdoorsman. The cap is a replica of the 58 caliber Minie'Bal Bullet. This was the most widely used bullet in the civil war. Originally a French army bullet, it was officially adopted by the Americans in 1855. Rings were added to the original design to hold grease to help ease the bullet down the barrel as well as to collect powder residue when fired. It was used in the Model 1861 Springfield Musket. The pen clip is a replica of the Model 1861 Springfield Musket. The Model 1861, commonly referred to as the "Springfield", a single shot, muzzle-loading gun favored for its range, accuracy and reliability, It fired the 58 caliber Minie'Ball and had a maximum efective range of 500 yards. It was the most common firearm in use by both Union and Confederate forces. The tip is a replica of the 44 caliber 1860 Colt Army Revolver bullet. Shot from the 1860 Colt Army revolver, it was the favorite side arm for cavalry, infantry, and artillery troops. It was the most widely used handgun of the civil war. A six shot model, it allowed the user to fire six times before needing to stop and reload the weapon. The 44 calber bullet was designed for the revolver's round barrel, with a cartidge that had paper glued to the ball. The barrel of this pen is made of walnut, the most common wood used for stocks and pistol grips during the civil war period. Walnut was known for its beauty and strength and affordable in that era. The wood of this pen has been coated with Shellawax (a combination of shellac and varnish)and polished to a high luster, kind of like old Johnny Reb and Billy Yank would have done it. It is plated with a beautiful brushed satin finish which we think most closely resembles lead as in Mini'Ball. The pen uses a Parker style refill actuated by twisting the cap. It measures approximately 7/16" diameter at the nib and weights about 2 grams. It comes with a brochure explaining it's features and signed by the penmaker. It also comes in a gray velour gift box and ships free by USPS Priority Mail.
